This morning REva has announced two new cars - the Reva NXR city car and the Reva NXG, sporty two seat car.

The cars will be officially unveilled at the Frankfurt motor show on 16th September, when full details will be available. I will be going to Frankfurt on the 21st September to see the cars and try out the NXR for myself.

Here is the full press release from Reva, followed by a more detailed information pack:

WORLD LAUNCH OF THE REVA NXR and NXG AT THE FRANKFURT IAA

REVA LAUNCHING TWO NEW CARS AT FRANKFURT
At midday on Wednesday 16th September 2009 REVA Electric Car Company (REVA) will be unveiling two new M1 classified electric cars at the 63rd Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA).

The REVA NXR is a four-seat, three-door hatchback family car suitable for urban driving that can be ordered at the show, with production scheduled to commence at the beginning of 2010.

The showcar, REVA’s model for 2011, is the REVA NXG; a sporty two-seater with a targa roof that was designed by Dilip Chhabria of the internationally renowned automotive design company DC Design.

Another world-first for REVA at The IAA is the launch of REVive, a technology unique to REVA that addresses ‘range anxiety’ and acts like an invisible reserve fuel tank. The customer just has to telephone or SMS REVA for an instant remote recharge should they run out of charge. Both the REVA NXR and the REVA NXG will feature the REVive telematics technology. Further technology and pricing announcements will be made at the IAA.

REVA’s new website, Revaglobal.com, will go live at the time of the vehicle launches in Frankfurt and customers can register on the priority list for the new cars on-line.

REVA is the brand of the Reva Electric Car Company, a Bangalore-based company formed as a joint venture between Maini Group of India and AEV LLC of California and backed by US investors Global Environment Fund and Draper Fisher Jurvetson.
Today, REVA is selling, or being test marketed, in 24 countries worldwide and has the largest deployed fleet of electric cars on the market with over 3,000 EVs on the road and more than 70 million kilometres of user experience.

The company is building a new ultra low carbon vehicle assembly plant in Bangalore, with a capacity of 30,000 units per annum, to accommodate increased production and is planning to introduce even more measures to ensue that it has the cleanest and greenest production.

Here is the more information from Reva:

REVA is a market and technology leader in electric cars with over 3,000 units on the roads in Europe and India and a growing network of distributors worldwide. On 16th September, at the Frankfurt IAA, REVA will be unveiling for the first time the REVA NXR, an all new four-seat M1 family car suitable for urban driving which will go into production Q1 2010; and a showcar, the REVA NXG, a sporty two-seater that will be REVA’s 2011 model. The NXR is designed by REVA’s design team and mentored by Dilip Chhabria of DC Design. The NXG is designed by Dilip Chhabria.

Another world-first for REVA at the IAA is the launch of REVive, a technology unique to REVA that addresses ‘range anxiety’ and acts like an invisible reserve fuel tank should the driver run out of charge. The customer just has to telephone or SMS REVA for an instant remote recharge and this will be available for both the REVA NXR and the REVA NXG.

Nice to see a new car from Reva, looks a lot more mature than the current model, it will be interesting to see what price it will be selling at.

this seamed a bit supprising to me! sure we are all anxious when getting used to the car, but I've never had any anxiety about my car, if I was that concerned I'd have brought a car I could fill up at the petrol station. I bet they rarely get a call for a remote charge & every owner will be paying for the privilege.

I saw the prototype of this car when I was in Bangalore in March. I've had to keep quiet about it ever since.

The Reva design team have been guided by Dilip Chhabria, who designed the Aston Martin Vanquish. It really looks good in the flesh. Its a nicely styled car which really does have a 'wow' impact about it. The front three-quarters view they've released here does not do the car justice - there are lots of lovely details to it and it really does look good.

Running out of range is a perrceived issue with electric cars, and is a barrier to sales.

I think a lot of new electric car owners have a fear they're going to run out of juice in the early days. It takes a few months to get over them! I remember being concerned a few times in the early days, but I never have had a problem where I haven't been able to get home with plenty of range to spare: I've never gone into the 'red' zone.

I am intrigued by this 'remote charge' - just send an SMS message and you get a charge up! I sounds like science fiction or very dangerous or both!!

I can only assume that what is happening is that you have a couple of 'secret batteries' on board and that by calling Reva you get them to unlock the extra juice.

Putting the shoe on the other foot for a minute (well I am a shoe repairer!) it might build confidence for new owners, but might alienate existing owners who might feel robbed of their own battery management skills :?

I think this system "could" be the Achilles heel (there I go again) as people could equally see this new feature as a pre-perrceived issue and is a barrier to sales.

But hay what do I know! Love the new design, finally a fresh EV & one I like the look off.

wow, looks great - much better as a finished product than the spy shots suggested! a massive leap forward from what they've produced before

any idea on price? as the battery seems like it is going to be leased it could come in at a reasonable price - £10,000 + £150 per month or is that optimistic?

Prices are T.B.A. and the spy shots that have been appearing on the web were actually a different car - a stillborn project.

That looks fantastic! I want one!

The performance is good too - at a push you could even use it on a motorway without a problem: you'd be quicker than the trucks and with the motorways around Birmingham at least, its rare you get to go any faster than that anyhow.

Is it classed as a proper car this time, or is it still a quadricycle?

Any pictures of the sportscar yet?

Wow! This is great news. According to the information above, its a proper car and not a quadricycle. So that means airbags and crash testing and all that stuff.

I like it - it looks very good indeed. I presume there is only the one photograph until launch day?

I'm going to be at the Frankfurt show for a few of the days, so I'll try and get some photographs and information whilst I'm over there
