2008 London to Brighton electric car run - Sunday 6th July

Electric vehicles in general

Sounds great, but you're in Bristol

Presumably they're going to start their London to Brighton run in London.

And if you ask nicely, they might drop you off at the M25/M4 interchange on the way back.  :)

Erph?

Seriously, if you would like to come I'm sure we can arrange transport for you back to London. There's a few people heading back there...we're probably going back to at least a tube station. Or don't you like the Prius :(

on a different note we've had some press interest already. If you're coming you may want to help out!

Well, we've had our first press request.

If anyone is willing to be used in press and publicity for the event please let me know.

Dear Nikki,

RE: SBS TV / Filming Inquiry

It was very nice to talk with you.
Further to our telephone conversation, I write to inquire for the filming of the Electric Cars.

My name is Channie Kwon, UK correspondent TV producer working for SBS, one of the major public TV in South Korea, like the BBC or ITV in the UK.

We are making a TV programme about 'The Green Cars in the UK' for the 'SBS Global Express' which is a famous and popular global infotainment TV show even in Japan, China, Hong-Kong and so on.
Due to very high price of petrol and many environmental reasons, we believe the green car stories in this broadcasting project would be very special and helpful information for the audience who are in South Korea and also in many Eastern-Asian countries as well.
Therefore, we request your help and permission for an interview and filming as following;

1. Filming Plan
1) BVS London-Brighton Run (Sun, 6th of July, 2008).
2) A person who is owned and driving the City-EL or G-wiz in London area.
   * Actually, we prefer to cover both of vehicles, if you can find each owner of them for us.

2. What we want filming about
1) BVS London-Brighton Run
   - The whole event process of the running day on Sun, 6th of July, 2008.

2) Interviewing and filming with the owner of the City-EL or G-wiz.
   - General filming of driving the El-cars.
   - Why you wanted have the electric car(s).
   - All the benefits of having electric vehicle. (How you can save the money; Petrol, Congestion charge, Parking, Tax and so on.)
   - Feedbacks from your family and friend.
   - Personal Future prospects of Electric(Green) Cars.
   - Campaign message for the audience.
   - And etc.

3. Additional information
   - The broadcasting will be air on Wed, 9th of July.
   - We will send a copy of the programme after the broadcasting.
   - Due to the deadline of its producing process, we suggest to have an interview a.s.a.p, at your earliest convenience.
   - Please note that we have many experiences getting business inquiries after the broadcastings regarding such nice services and products.

It would be grateful as the representative of the Korean audience, if you could kindly allow us to have an interview regarding the Electric-cars.
Please let us know whether you would be available to have an interview with us, by calling to my mobile(07846 016 750) or e-mail(sbs@gnslondon.net).
Thank you very much and we are very looking forward to hearing from you, as soon as possible.

Best Regards

I think Channie was initially hoping to interview me with the City el, but of course I've just sold it!

I'm hoping he will consider filiming a berlingo and some of the other EVs too...

So who is actually going along?  A couple of people went last year and said it was a good day out.

Hi Mike,

So far I've got:

One G Wiz
One Bombardier
An electric Trike of some description.
A Twike
Three Prius
Possibly a Vectrix.

So who is interested then?

We're a few days away so I thought it best to sort out a few things for the start.

It appears that some postal entries have gone awry. I've had some email ones so if you've entered by email chances are I have it.

However, if you're coming please ring either me or John crayton (details in the pack) to let us know you're coming as a back-up solution in case the postal entries have gone missing.

If you want to come to the start but don't want to take part in the run you're more than welcome. The more the merrier!

Nikki.

Well I did the 2008 London to Brighton (and indeed back to London) Run and lived to tell the tale!

It's too far do to Basildon-London-Brighton-London-Basildon in one day, so I charged the car in London (care of the Corporation of London car park in White's Row) overnight at each end of the trip staying at my Fiance's.

8:40 AM saw saw Tricia and I collecting the Wiz from the car park in Spitalfields ready to pootle over to the start at Clapham Common.  Getting away from the car park took a while as we kept getting tangled up in the Petticoat Lane Sunday Market, but we evenually got to Clapham Common shortly after nine and met up with some of the other participants.

We were one of the first away from Clapham Common and had an uneventful trip except for one wrong turn which we quickly corrected.  I'm not sure what the Twike driver thought when we passed each other in opposite directions!

The weather deteriorated through the morning and by the time we had our lunchtime stop in Handcross the weather was quite bad.  Much juggling of electrical connections ensured everyone got a charge, although careful attention was needed not to overload the ring mains at the hall.

Early afternoon saw us pootling down to Brighton Marina where fortunately the weather had cleared up and we were able to spend time admiring the other vehicles (and in some cases engaging in some restorative retail therapy).

By early evening we were heading up to Crawley for a recharge at Carl's (a friend of aminorjourney).  This turned out to be a great evening with Carl and his wife as Tricia and I got to have fun with their Sinclair C5s and Mini/City El while the Wiz was charging.

We got back to White's Row at about 11:15 PM having completed 122 miles of Wizzing in one day.  Is this a record?

A most enjoyable day.

Tim, 122 miles in a day in the Gwiz - that is a fair old distance. Did you just have the 2 charging opportunities? I take it the second charge was a full one?
