Continuing on with the in dash computer, I have managed to get two good evenings on it & have managed to get all the wiring done.
I ran a separate fuse box from the cables in the back of the cars original fuse box & have got all the cabling where it should be & late last night I powered up the head unit & all seams fine. the g-wiz is a marvel of wiring with different voltages for the heater (48v), main electrics (12v) & dash board lights (6v) none of you mainstream 12 volts for everything!

Despite powering it all up (computer booted up, fan came on, lights blinked into life) I have to space the cage away from the dash board & need a gender change adapter for the monitor  so didn't actually see it working!

Its proved quite a tricky project that just keeps needed extra bits to make it work, but I'm getting there & it won't be long before I have "Live" in dash BMS gages!

here's the under bonnet computer wiring loom prior to plugging in & tidying.

You can see some of the wiring hanging down below the dash, this is the final task, unplug everything & tidy up the wiring.

In dash Battery monitoring :salut:

Re: service light.

Postby cobb-lees » 25 Oct 2009 13:01

Yesterday I gave my car some hard work, in the morning I went to the local hospital (one of my sons broke his arm!) & did some running about before work. then I charged the car before heading to beccles on an 18 mile round trip. On the way home I decided to take the long route to really exercise the batteries & drained them well down in the yellow. during the course of the day I must have done 40-50 miles in total on the two charges

The red battery light was flashing away when I got into the drive & this was only the second time since owning the car I had brought the SOC down this low.

Anyway all was going well until I plugged the charge cable in, then immediately the service light came on.. opps!

I wasn't too worried & left the car charging overnight. when I went out in it this morning the service light was still on, so I opened up the in dash BMS monitor & switched it off! I've been out in it this morning & all seams well & the light hasn't come back on so I'm hoping the system got confused :pale:

I'll keep you posted!

I have just spent the afternoon putting in an extra live feed for the carputer, because its been really irritating waiting for the computer to boot up every time I leave the car!

I get it out the garage & it boots up, I take the keys out to lock the garage & it closes down! I drop the kids of at school & have to boot it up before driving off. Not very practical!

So I've put a live feed & switch onto the ignition side of the computer to keep it booted up when I leave the car, should I choose, with a light to remind me to switch it off when I leave the car at night.

The tricky part was I didn't want the permanent live, feeding back down the ignition feed & making everything live all the time! so I put a diode in the wiring to stop this happening.

So now I can either have the computer running from the ignition or permanent. I also charged the car up along the way & was relieved that the service light didn't reappear.

Lee,

I use a carputer power supply from carnetix. It has a setting which allows you to set the amount of time it stays on before it turns the computer off. It's nice, because you can turn the car off for about sixty seconds before it'll power down. If you power the car back on in that time the computer will stay active :)

thats the point Nikki i was finding popping into the shops for a pint of milk meant having to re-power the computer as even 60 seconds isn't long enough even for this!

the power supply I have came via ebay so doesn't have such luxuries as adjustable settings! at least now when I do leave the car for a short period I can keep the computer powered up for my return & appart from a few hours with a solder gun it only cost me 1.50 for the diode!

its all fun & games really.

Re: Service light re-set AGAIN!

Postby cobb-lees » 11 Nov 2009 12:07

This morning I had to reset the service light on my car for the second time! (see this topic)

Anyway here's a little vid, of how easy it is to re-set on a g-wiz when you haven't the luxury of a local dealer. My computer was plugged in to the socket behind the front seats which is the equivalent of plugging in your lap top, so nothing special in communicating with the car.

Well following on from the topic link in the above reply, where I said
cobb-lees wrote:Battery 2 is weak, but the cars still doing 25 miles to a charge with the heater on, so it can't be to bad!
today it was Bad! I went up a hill & on came the service light, down went the battery gage as the power drained away! when I got to the flat surface the gage came back up. but clearly the batteries have had their day!

As soon as I got to work I placed my order for my new trojans! I'll let you know how I get on fitting them in the coming weeks!

Any hot tips?
