@bragi - we have LPG stations. LPG is a mixture of propane and butane. Personally, I'm not sure these stations are here to stay, given that the congestion charge exemption keeps getting more strict and now you can get a standard car (e.g. VW Bluemotion) that does the same for you. The return on investment is quite long (infinite?) compared to a diesel if you consider just the fuel saving.
We do love our "natural gas" in London, that's mostly methane, but it is supplied to domestic premises at 20mbar so you'd have to be very careful or foolish pumping it into a car.
If you are referring to the Reva hybrid fuel-cell / battery vehicle, I think it is actually fuelled by methanol. With the right catalyst (e.g. palladium) and reagents (I think one of them is sodium hydroxide) you can reform the methanol to work a fuel cell. I know it's an area of active research as it could offer a way forward for high-density energy storage for electric vehicles. Personally though I think ICE technology still has a lot to offer (e.g. diesel-electric hybrids (similar to railway locomotives), exhaust energy recovery, intelligent transmission), but I won't go on.
