Energy Bills could rise by 60%

Postby EfficientEnergySaving » 09 Oct 2009 10:59

The Energy regulator has announced that energy prices may rise by as much as 60% by 2016. This is the worst case scenario. The average price increase is estimated between 14 and 25% above inflation by 2020.

One of the problems is securing energy from other countries, therefore investment needs to be made into new energy sources.

Also the climate change target set by Brussels is high, so the target emissions need to fall and may fall by by over 40%. This is good news, but we will have to pay the cost.

Now is the time to start energy saving, are there any tips you have?

We have recently added "bye bye standby" on our sockets for the TV, DVD, Freeveiw, Amp. These are very easy to use and as they were a gift cost us nothing. :D

I think it is inevitable that energy bills will rise quite dramatically over the next few years. 60% sounds very high, but 25%-30% is very likely.

I think that instead or relying on other countries for power (and going to war to secure it at the most extreme) we should be looking at ways in which we can produce our own energy within our own shores. This means building more wind and solar farms instead of looking towards nuclear and producing more energy efficient systems for homes for when there are power cuts, such as energy storage in batteries and other storage devices. For too long we have relied on other countries for fuel to power our own country, always relying on their prices, of which we have to fork out for year on year.
