During a press conference the M&M president--automotive announced that the Reva NXR & NXG will be available in the 4th quarter of 2011.

"A lot of work is going on at the moment and the launch of the new Reva NXR and NXG should be by Q4 of 2011,"

This will be exciting for Mahindra Reva when they are launched, but if this is the official date, it will be after some of the major manufacturers have launched their cars.

Interesting - but take into account that the NXR is supposed to be out before the NXG.

So the quote could be taken two ways - either the NXR is being delayed and will be launched at the same time as the NXG, or that the NXR will be first and the NXG will be available by the fourth quarter of 2011.

If it is the latter, it just means "business as usual".

The NXR and NXG will be launched at different times in different markets. The European dates are still to be announced and the NXG will definitely follow the NXR at a later date.
Both the products and the pricing will be worth waiting for.

Will the NXR and NXG qualify for that 5K government grant?

They have to be classed as proper cars and not quadracycles. Also they have to be able to do 0-60 in a reasonable time and I think about 100miles on a single charge.

Be great if we could get 5K off when they are released next year? Any details on prices so far?

The REVA NXR Intercity and the REVA NXG will both qualify for the grant. They are full M1 certified cars, not quadricycles, and conform to the same EU regulations for crash testing as any other car produced by a major manufacturer.

The NXR Intercity has a top speed of 65mph and a range of up to 100 miles. The NXG has a top speed of 80mph and a range of up to 125 miles, which will probably make it the longest range electric car available in the UK after the Tesla Roadster.

The basic model - the REVA NXR City - will not qualify for the grant because it only has a top speed of 50mph and a range of 50 miles.

Prices for all three cars were announced last year. However, how these prices fit in with the new subsidies I don't know. We should hear more soon.

The latest information I have is that the NXR will be in production at the end of this year. The first cars will be for India and exports will then commence late Spring/early Summer next year.

I do not have any specific news on the NXG as yet.

I test drove a Mitsubishi i-MiEV earlier this year. It's a nice car, but very expensive. I hear they are bringing out a cheaper version early next year and I may well be tempted to buy one then.

But if the NXR is available at the same time, I'd be interested in trying one of those out as well. Does anyone know how the cars compare?

They look great! It now being the last quarter of 2011 - any sign of them being released. Also, any indication of price after the grant?
