Hi all

I'm right on the verge of buying a 2nd-hand g-Wiz and trying to find sensibly priced insurance. It's looking like £270 a year fully comp for me and my wife. But adding on 18-year old son isn't looking very cheap – (but that's assuming he will actually drive it, so maybe it won't be an issue. . .).

Any ideas?, and particularly on clued up insurers who actually know what a g-Wiz iz.

I'm insured with NIG myself, but I don't have the teenage son problem.

I'm with Elephant - who I can really recommend, both on price and on service if you ever need to make a claim.

Last year I paid £150-odd. This year its gone up to £240-odd, which is quite a jump!

Thanks Mike, Tim, Phil and Bugster very much, all incredibly useful. The best quote I got was £270 for me and Teresa with a loading of another £1200-odd to include Alex. Completely insane. Unfortunately the 2nd-hand AC they had at GoingGreen has now sold and then I got a bit concerned on the safety side. Okay, yes, I read Jermey Dickhead's review of the G-Wiz in last Sunday's ST http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/li ... 192285.ece and although gnashing my teeth at his pompous prattling, I did think the Top Gear test must have been straight. Also began to wonder if my desire for a G-Wiz was as much a gadget thing as an environmental benefit, and whether living in the suburbs (Kingston) is not the ideal place, as we have bikes and half decent public transport. Can see myself going down to the offy to get some beer on my bum, rather than hopping on my bike. Actually I usually use the Volvo, which we're planning to get rid of as we only really need it for long journeys and it's a such a hog. . .But fifty journeys a year doesn't really add up. So I'm wondering about buying an LPG run-around. Meanwhile, I strayed onto this:

I have recommended my insurance broker to a lot of g-wiz owners, Robert Edwards Ltd, speak to Raj, Brian of Tony. I thing Goingreen recommends them now as well. Tel: 020 8686 1778.

g-wiz are not the most common cars to insure but you can usually find a lot of insurance options on the main insurance sites out there.

Just got my renewal from Elephant - Fully comp £540 - that's with 2 yrs no-claims, no points on either my or my wife's license.  No teenage kids.  NW7 postcode.  Claiming the 3rd brakelight & sunroof as mods.  Must be the neighborhood, I guess.
